When last we left our fun band of adventurers, they had just killed off the green dragon and the Wood Elf King's son. The party then turned over the wood elf body to the now freed wood elves to return the body to the King, for the King's closure, and then cleaned out the dragon's hoard.
We also leveled up at this point, so we all have new tricks and abilities under our belts.
We had a good long discussion about ethics and doing good versus evil as Elle was scared badly by this fight. It ended with Elle asking, softly, if Magnus would smite her if she did slip into doing evil. Magnus apparently has a sense of humor however. He responds with "Yes, I would smite you down remorse" ... and then busts out laughing with "You're too easy! You should see the look on your face! No, no, my friend, it will never come to that. Worry not!"
Elle's not entirely convinced he wouldn't smite her if she strays too far.
So we de-flesh the green dragon head, gather up the considerable loot, load up the horses and head back to Waterdeep. Along the way we hear a lot of voices off in the distance, so we go to investigate. We happen upon a pop up arena fight club. Up to 4 can enter and fight against the owner's choice of monsters. So Tsedek, Itanis, Leovan, and Elle entered the ring.
The arena owner sends in a Beholder and two Spectators. These are floating eyeballs of doom basically, this is definitely attention worthy.
Unfortunately this fight was last Monday so I don't remember all the details of it, but some of the highlights include:
Leovan using his new bow with special powers, then getting charmed by the Beholder.
Itanis pulls out his classic caltrops of doom and proceeds to start stabbing at eyes with them.
Tsedek goes into hide/sneak/stab mode
Elle pulls out her brand new spell called "Investiture of Flame". Basically she starts having flames shoot up and down her body, giving her immunity to fire. If people end their turn within 5' of her they take fire damage. And on her turn, she can shoot a ray of fire at a target. So yeah, that was pulled out and used. :)
We killed the Beholder and Spectators, gained some respect from this organization, and 5k GP. We put 1k into the castle fund, and split the rest evenly between the four of us.
So we continued on to Waterdeep, where Elle gets lost in her studies some as she has several spells to transcribe, while Tsedek sold off some of the lesser loot. Magnus has business with the local armorer -- picking up his blue dragon scale armor -- and Tsedek is a very charming fellow, calls himself a "silver tongued devil", so is good at procuring and selling of items. So he handled the lesser items, but we decided all four of us would go to meet the buyer Tsedek arranged for the high end item we got from the green dragon. Just in case.
Today's cast was Magnus, Elle, Tsedek, and Leovan.
Turns out that was a good thing, for as Tsedek is talking with the buyer, a couple of shady people showed up. Then a few more. Then a few more. The buyer got super antsy but Tsedek was able to charm the fellow into allowing us to protect him.
As we're raising weapons to defend the buyers (and ourselves), Magnus informs Elle that she's not to be flashy as we don't want to scare the buyers/draw more attention. I think that earned him a finnnneee whatever. LOL
So the scene is we're in a dark alley way in a sketchier neighborhood and 2 or 3 bandits came out of no where on one end of the alley, and 3 bandits came out of no where on the other end of the alley, essentially trapping us.
Leovan immediately drops into his sniper mode, picking off bandits with his skill in bow. He's very good at sending multiple rounds down range and doing a lot of damage. It's never grand or flashy, but very very effective. Tsedek had gone invisible when the bandits showed up, so he snuck up and dealt considerable damage with his daggers. Between Leovan and Tsedek they took down 2 of the front group of Bandits. Magnus promptly does hold person on the 3 rear bandits, commanding them to stay. Elle temporarily decides to listen to Magnus and slams one of the held bandits with fire-bolt, which is a cheap spell that does a good amount of damage -- and is not flashy, it's just a targeted quick beam of fire.
And then more bandits show up and starts shooting at us. Magnus hollers out OK Elle, light em up! Which is good, because she was going to anyway. She did take a little damage from a crossbow bolt, not much. I think everyone took a little damage from bolts but no one is seriously injured.
So Leovan proceeds to machine gun more arrows doing a ton of damage. Tsedek, this over 6' tall red skin devil looking dude pulls out a new skill that involves a green flaming blade and just whacked away at more bandits. Magnus growls out an "I told you you were stupid for attacking someone wearing dragon scale armor" and just demolishes two of the held bandits without effort. Since he was in good shape, Elle turned her attentions on the front group of bandits and placed a fireball to get the most bandits, and excluded Tsedek and the buyer/buyer's assitant from the damage. So they would have seen flame coming towards them but they took absolutely no damage. She killed three visible, and two hidden, bandits with that one fireball.
So what do the rest of the bandits decide to do? Stay and fight? Run away like cowards? Yeah, the latter was their course of action. A couple of the further away bandits scampered off fairly easily. The poor held bandit, that Elle had injured early on, decides to run away right past Magnus. He got squashed like a bug.
Then Leovan pulled out the Lantern of Revealing, which will light up invisible creatures, only to find a rogue bandit right next to Elle about to do shenanigans. He, realizing he was had, took off running. He was smart enough to not run towards the tank wearing dragon armor and ran towards the devil dude.
Unfortunately for him though, Elle now gets an attack of opportunity (something normally held for melee characters like fighters or clerics). So, she flicks another firebolt, squarely hitting this bandit and doing a lot of damage. Tsedek then finishes him off with a quick and efficient dagger thrust.
The buyer was stunned but thankful that we were so efficient in dealing with these bandits, and was completely unharmed, so he bought our item at value + 10%. We walked away amused and very rich.
So now we're doing some procuring of items in Waterdeep as we all have gold in our pocket so to speak.
Magnus went off in search of a skilled weapon-smith to upgrade the Lightbringer Maul, so he can smite evil more efficiently.
Elle went off by herself to acquire a scroll from a semi shady dude, but she doesn't want the party to know she has this spell as yet as it's one that walks that line between good and evil. She was successful, and not mugged. She converted a chunk of gold for platinum so she can save it for another project. But she still has plenty to spend.
Tsedek is hunting down either a magical rapier or a magical whip to do more damage with.
There will be more soon!
