Special 8: We try our skills against a dracolich

For those that do not know, a dracolich is an undead dragon. Yes, it's as scary as that sounds. Combine dragon abilities with undead abilities and a creepy presence about it, that's what we were fighting.
Today's game was Magnus the Paladin, Tsedek the Rogue, Leovan the Ranger, and Elle the Wizard. Itanis the Wizard was not available to play, hence the non-story line game today.
So our GM put us in a room with a dracolich. Magnus gets almost gleeful at this, Paladins and all being geared towards killing undead creatures. And Elle actually had no desire to get anywhere near the creature, frequently she gets the "I want to pet the pretty dragon" feeling. :)
First up is Leovan, who moves further away from the dracolich and proceeds to shoot it with his bow for a lot of damage. Then Tsedek does the same, again smacking it hard. Elle was next and she's been saving this spell for just this reason. She cast "Sunbeam", which is basically a bolt of pure radiance that undead have disadvantage to resisting damage. So she did a chunk of damage, but she had to get within 60' of the thing. And then Magnus went, waltz right up to it (while Hasted) and proceeds to smite it 3 times for about 100 hp of damage. Yes, that's an absurd amount.
So the dracolich decided it didn't like Magnus or Elle, and proceeds to blast us with a lightning bolt (yay undead dragons get breath weapons). The damage was significant. Magnus felt that one and it brought Elle down to 2hp left. I'm pretty sure it took a swipe at Magnus as well before flying up and diving into a pool of water.
Because Magnus and Elle took significant damage we had to do concentration checks to keep our spells going (his haste, Elle's sunbeam). We both failed, so those spells were gone.
Leovan threw up his healing spirit spell, which is kinda like a slow refill of your hp if you stand in it, so Elle was slightly healed. He then moved further away from the last known location of the dracolich. Tsedek, our fire loving tiefling, dove straight into the pool of water with the dracolich and proceeds to smack at it. It returned the favor as well. Elle, being her normal self, lobs a fireball into the pool of water. Magnus can not go this round due to the loss of the Haste spell.
The dracolich proceeds to fly up out of the pool of water, land next to Elle, and proceeds to do a wing attack that knocks people prone. Thankfully Elle resisted that otherwise she'd have been a snack. It then moved over towards Magnus.
Leovan moved his healing widget over to Elle, giving her a few more hp, and then proceeds to shoot the dracolich some more. Tsedek gets out of the pool of water and waltzes up to the dracolich to do more damage. Elle decides she's far too injured at this point so she polymorphs into a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Polymorph spells gives the recipient the hp and skills of the new creature. Magnus heals himself and waltzes right up to the dracolich.
The dracolich then proceeds to attack both Magnus and Tsedek, and now Tsedek is not in good shape. Magnus isn't doing too hot either. I think the only uninjured person in this discussion is Leovan. We know at this point the dracolich is injured but we don't know how badly as it's an undead. By default they're rather kinda ragged looking.
Leovan moved his healing widget over to Tsedek to help him out, Magnus of course waived it off, and then proceeded to shoot the dracolich some more. Tsedek stabbed it some more as well doing a good chunk of damage. Then Elle wades in as a T-Rex and bites the dracolich, proceeds to critical and do 87 points of damage. Magnus then smites the dracolich again which apparently angered the dracolich.
So the dracolich is apparently quite injured at this point and quite angry, so it did a last ditch kill everything maneuver and exploded in a lot of lightening damage and died.
At the end of the fight Tsedek's in rough shape, Elle's not so good (though thankful she was a T-Rex because that explosion would have killed her if she was in her normal form), and Magnus is down to 7hp. That's the lowest any fight has ever taken him.
