When last we left this bunch of adventurers they were under Waterdeep trying to hunt down the Mad Mage, Halaster. This party has known each other a whole 24 hours at this point (game-time), and consists of:
Melchizedor, the dwarven Cleric of Heironious
Talon, the Aarakocra (bird-man who can fly) Fighter
Unit 2408, the Warforged (humanoid living construct) Barbarian
Luthis, the Kenku (raven-man who can not fly) Blood Hunter
Evangeline, the Tiefling Paladin of Tyr
When we last left this bunch of adventurers we were still hunting down the human fighter and the sorceress from the fight in the throne room that had the wyvern skeleton in it. We're also still exploring the area to figure out what the Mad Mage is up to. Last seen we were in a room with a 4-armed fish-man, 2 arms holding a trident, one holding a stone box. Luthis and then Evangeline looked at the box but hadn't touched it yet.
So when today started, Evangeline decided the box was of no interest to her and walked back out to the hallway. Then Unit 2408 decides to walk in, tie a rope around the box, and walk back out to the hallway, giving the rope a good yank. As one might expect, something happened. In this case, the humanoid fish statue came to life yelling "You dare to take my chest!" and started moving towards us.
Melchizedor starts things off by walking right up to the humanoid fish-man and swings mightly, but misses*. Luthis unloads a full compliment of crossbow bolts on the creature, doing a fair chunk of damage. Unit 2408 also goes up to the creature to attack and hits. Evangeline decides to join the fun, throws up divine favor*, and also attacks. Hits both times doing a chunk of damage.
The creature then decides to attack Melchizedor, but misses, and Evangeline. He did hit her for a good chunk of piercing damage. Talon then shoots some arrows at the creature but misses. Next up is Melchizedor and he swings, hitting mightly, killing off the creature.
We all leave the room and Luthis uses his skills to get the box open. The acid does drop down into the room, this was not unexpected. In it he found a dagger and a dried heart. Lovely place so far.
We continued down the hall to the opening in the hallway that was on the right to find a room that had a ceiling covered in spider webs. Talon walks in with a torch going to burn away the webs, all we found was some bones and other assorted trash on the ground. It appears the three dead giant spiders out in the hall were the only occupants of this room. Evangeline did a quick medicine check on the dead spiders, and they've been dead for quite awhile, at least days.
The party continues down the hall and as we do so the temperature is dropping. Evangeline starts grinning, she does like the cold. As we're approaching the big double doors at the North end of the hall, staring at this purple arcane rune. Luthis inspects it a bit and manages to communicate that it's more of a warning than an explosion, so Evangeline goes to open the door. And fails miserably, I guess her hooves couldn't get traction. Unit 2408 though easily opened the door.
Inside this very large crescent shaped room there are a number archways on the far side. There is also purple glowing magical chains coming from the two end points of the crescent, ending at a purple glowing magical collar around a sleeping white dragon. Oh and it's VERY cold in this room. He cracks open one eye as Unit 2408 closes the door.
Unit 2408 and Evangeline are like time for us to go as there's no way we can take on such a formidible enemy. But Talon decides to hop on into the room, after struggling with the door, to see the situation. He's thinking we can slink around the outskirts of this creature's range since he's chained. So while Luthis studies the magic involved around these chains, the dragon decides to speak out loud.
In a deep rumbling male voice "I have had many visitors today. You look tasty." He then pauses. Luthis, either bravely or foolishly, responds with "We're just passing through looking for our friends have you seen them?"
The dragon then takes a deep breath in "You do not smell like you serve Halester, do you?" Evangeline retorts, while still smiling, "Of course not. I only serve Tyr."
And that's where our lunch hour ended. More next week!
* We realized after Melchizedor's first round of attacks that the gentleman who plays this character's iPad was having a fit. The digital dice roller would only ever roll a 4, and it took around 15 seconds per roll to actually roll. I gave him some of my spare physical dice at that point.
* Divine Favor is a low level spell that adds a small amount of radiant damage when a successful melee attack is made.
