Confession time, I started this post after this session happened ... but never finished it, so I don't remember all the details of the battle. And then what would be episode 7 I completely missed so I have a one paragraph description of what happened. So I'm going to smush those two sessions plus some role-play from the chat into one brief story. Also, with as much as I type Heironious between this story and Elle's story, you'd think my spell checker would have learned it by now. Hah!
So, when we last left this game our motley crew had failed negotiating with a group of bandits on the first level of this dungeon crawl. And since we seem to be comprised of folks who like to fight, we strode in to fight. Talon has been hit a fair bit and there's a couple of bandits down already, but the fight is in full swing.
But, our heroes prevailed. Talon has some mad skills, and Luthis' crossbow is nothing to sneeze at. Melchizedor did this neat spell by going to the middle of the fight, kneeling, and summoning angels from his deity Heironious. They swooped and swarmed around harassing the bandits. Evangeline and Unit 2408 employed our weapons in the more up close and personal style.
We then did what any good adventuring party does, even one that has known each other less than 24 hours, and looted the room and dead bandits. Who knows what we're going to find down here in this dungeon and we will need to buy food supplies and stuff eventually.
At this point we realized we'd now been in 3 major battles in less than 24 hours and were running low on abilities and health in general, so we started cautiously exploring for a safe place to hole up for a rest. Given this was the bandit's dining hall logically there should be quarters near by, but the question remained on if they were guarded or occupied. Luckily for us down around the corner there were 3 rooms and no more bandits.
One room turned out to be the Captain of the bandit's private room, complete with nicer furniture and murals on the wall. The middle room had suffered a rock slide at some point so was more closet sized than anything. And the last room turned out to be a barracks type room for the general bandits. We decided to take that room for our rest as it had only one way in/out as far as we could tell.
And then that led to some amusement, as we really had known each other less than 24 hours ago, we're trying to understand each other's abilities. Warforged are virtually unknown in this world, Kenku and Aarakocra aren't exactly common either.
Evangeline, being who she is, immediately started trying to ascertain everyone's needs so we can set up a watch rotation. While there is only one way in, there's still a way in. However, this earned her a blank stare from Unit 2408. He then stood in front of the door and ... powered down? Think sleep mode for a computer. Right in front of the door that as far as we know is the only way in to the room. Well, that would certainly wake us up.
The Kenku, Luthis, grabs one of the bandit's former beds and kinda ... makes a nest. Our Aarokocrka Talon rolls up a sleeping mat and perches on it. Evangeline and Melchizedor shrug and make themselves appropriately comfortable for the rest.
Which was undisturbed, so we were able to rest up well. The next morning Evangeline and Unit 2408 had a conversation. She's curious, its clear he's a solid warrior but his mannerisms and build are quite alien to her so she had to ask. Especially around the odd sleeping.
"Unit 2408, would you mind me asking you some questions? I haven't run into one of your kind before, but you do seem geared for battle. Where are you from and why do you not need to sleep?"
"I am originally from the Capital of the Kingdom of Cyre, but was sold after my creation by House Cannith to the Kingdom of Thrane to serve as a soldier in the Great War. My kind are the final product in a century long journey to create better soldiers. Through a mixture of science and magic we came to be as living constructs. Our bodies need to to self-repair and replenish, as do our minds, but 'sleep' is unknown to us. Tell me, what is it like?"
Evangeline just sorts of stares for a moment, silver eyes blink a few times, and then "Well. OK. I understood half of that. The need of better soldiers is an ages old problem. I have not as yet traveled enough to know the kingdom you are from though. I, hmm, sleep is when our bodies rest and heal. Without resting and healing my abilities in battle would be diminished. I wonder if your self-repair is like our healing?"
"I believe that to be so, yes. And I would be surprised if you had heard of my home. It is not of this world." Evangeline mutters "Wizards and their constant need to mess things up, figures. " "I do not see it that way. Had they not experimented in such a way, I would not exist. Nor would my kind." "I meant in reference to the world traveling. Though, I do question the need to make a creature such as yourself, but I do not know the whole situation well enough yet to make an informed decision. But, Tyr welcomes any righteous soldier so I shall as well. " "Ah, I see. Do you know the wizard that brought me here? At this point I am unaware of how I came here. And who is this Tyr you speak of? I assume he is a deity of some sort, though I have never heard his name before." "Oh, no, I learned awhile ago to not have quite so many dealings with wizards. They just cause trouble. The kind of trouble that brings beings from one world to another or worse. Tyr is one of the deities of this world, yes, he holds those of us that dispense justice and those of us occupied with just wars, in his hands. He has chosen me to be one of his holy warriors, much to many's surprise. " She relays this with a bit of a wry smile. "Ah, I see. He sounds much like Dol Dorn. Fascinating. I assume he is a deity of war, correct?" "Yes, Tyr is for Justice and War. He might like you and your kind. " "Possibly. Though I don't know if any deity cares for my kind. I do have my hopes though." At this he grabs a small arrow shaped medallion embedded in his chest.
At this point morning routines were finished so the party went out to continue exploring the area. We went back into the bandit's dining area and took off down the northern hallway from there. We've not been this way much yet. As we're going down the hall, someone alerted to a secret door, so we had to go investigate. It is bad to leave enemies at one's back after all.
Inside this room there's a freaking vampire. One with a stake through its heart. There was an attempt to use holy water on said vampire, but there is apparently protected by a barrier of some kind.
Which is where we left the party. Figures, the day I'm out there's an undead.
