Episode 16: We attempt to disrupt the invasion

Surprise, we're back with another Mad Mage game! Scheduling was being a challenge this week but we got it in. As a reminder, this party consists of:
Unit 2408, the Warforged (humanoid living construct) Barbarian
Luthis, the Kenku (humanoid raven who can not fly) Blood Hunter
Dancing Wind, a Tabaxi (humanoid cat) Wizard
Elniss, a Human Cleric of Ilmater
Evangeline, the Tiefling Paladin of Tyr
When last we left this party they had come across a plan to harm Waterdeep and the Inn that was the access point to Halaster's turf. We also made friends with Halleth, the Revenant former cleric.
But, Halleth was being pretty open with us and up front, and he gave us a lot of information about the layout of the rooms ahead. He also confirmed that this area was occupied by a passel of goblins, a couple of orcs, the fire giant, and the tortle.
After some back and forth we decide to use the hall between the pit room and the furnace room as an ambush/pinch point. The plan that was formulated was to hide just out of sight in the pit room and lure the occupants this direction piece meal. Unit 2408 and Halleth on one side of the opening, Evangeline and Elniss on the other. Luthis and Dancing Wind were to stay a bit further back and do their ranged glory. It seems like a good idea, so we set it in motion.
Evangeline steps briefly into the hall and smashes her hammer into the stone wall, making quite the ruckus, and then ducks back out of sight. After a few moments Luthis picks up on the sound of a Goblin scout cautiously coming our way and muttering. It got fairly close to the opening and stopped, so Unit 2408 counts down silently on his 3 fingers. They both pop around the corner and demolish the creature. Unit 2408 then dragged it back into the pit room and tucked it around the corner.
And we waited some more. This time what we hear sounds like a small pack of Goblins coming down the hall, chittering away like they are prone to do. And they brought an Orc friend. As the 6-pack of Goblins clear the bend in the hall they see us and come rushing towards us.
Dancing Wind has the first action, so he casts Haste* via a twinning ability on both Unit 2408 and Evangeline, then scampers out of the room into the secret tunnel.
All 6 goblins arrive at this point and park themselves in front of Unit 2408 and Evangeline, 3 attacking each of us and doing some damage.
Luthis scurries to the right angle to shoot his deadly bolts into the gaggle of goblins, and he kills off 2 of them in front of Evangeline and injures one in front of Unit 2408. Unit 2408 then polishes off the injured goblin and mows through the remaining two in front of him with ease and rushes up into the Orc's face. Evangeline finishes off the last goblin and runs up to the Orc as well. Part of the plan includes not letting bad guys to gain access to the pit room to protect our squishier party members.
The orc, having two targets in front of him, swings away. He slashes at Unit 2408 but misses, and continues on to solidly hit Evangeline.
Elniss comes around the corner and throws Sacred Flames at the orc, while Halleth starts throwing the goblin bodies in the pit
Dancing Wind decides to remain hidden to recuperate some of his abilities and Luthis moves to see if he can get an angle on the orc. Unfortunately having a wall of metal in front of the orc makes his crossbow ability relatively dangerous to use at this moment.
Unit 2408 gets his great sword swinging at the orc, but misses this time. Evangeline then laid the smackdown with her war hammer, hitting all 3 times. Then Elniss throws Sacred Flame again and kills the Orc.
Unit 2408 moves the Orc's body back into the pit room and we get back into position. Sure enough, we soon hear the chittering of the goblins. And at this point Elniss speaks up and says he understands them. They're calling out to their buddies asking if there's anything wrong. So Elniss pitches his voice higher and responds "Everything OK, we just found some loot!" in goblin.
Goblins, they're rather greedy creatures, so they come rushing down the hall. Another 6 pack of them, followed by an orc buddy. And then we hear the sound of the giant coming down the hall as well. So we resume the attack.
The goblins come in much the same way as before, all 6 at the same time, right in front of Unit 2408 and Evangeline. Dancing Wind pops out of his hiding spot and casts Frost Bite at one of the Goblins but doesn't kill it.
The three in front of Evangeline try to hit her and misses, but the three in front of Unit 2408 connect with him. Elniss steps up next to Evangeline and attacks the line of goblins as well. Evangeline kills the injured goblin plus the next one. Unit 2408 kills two of the goblins in front of him. And then Luthis lets loose with his deadly crossbow and kills the last two goblins and hits the orc.
The orc then wades forward and attacks Evangelines, hitting her solidly.
And that's when our lunch ended!
* Haste gives us a +2 to Armor Class and an extra attack each round. Since both characters normally gets 2 attacks, this bumps us to 3.
