Episode 1404: A little overkill and a little amusement

It's been awhile for this game hasn't it? Holidays and such makes it difficult to play sometimes. And, in fact, two of our players were missing today. As a general rule we will play with one player out, but not more. But, we've been frustrated as it's been over a month, so we went ahead and played. As a reminder, this crew is the OG:

Tsedek, our charming Tiefling Rogue

Itanis, a devious High Elf Wizard, fond of controlling any situation we may find ourselves in

Leoven, our quiet but effective Wood Elf Ranger

Magnus, the Human Paladin of Heironious, he has followed a vengeance path

Elle, the small but sparky High Elf Wizard, fond of blowing things up with lots of fire

OK when last we left this crew we had made it into the wizard's tower via a teleportation circle, only to find a series of teleportation circles inside with non descript buttons. We had tried a few, and wound up in a small round metal room. Upon exiting that room we found some Cult of the Dragon members (aka cultists).

Magnus, Elle, and Tsedek walked into the side-room with the cultists, and shut the door. Now, Tsedek got to go first and he, while invisible, puts his hands over Magnus and Elle's eyes. We got the message and closed our eyes. And he promptly does Hypnotic Gaze on the bad guys. Gets them all too, so all 6 are standing there stunned. Elle, being frustrated from the maze, decides to go ahead and fireball anyway. See, normally we pick them off one or two at a time in this state, but she was frustrated. Landed a low level fireball in middle of the pack of them doing close to max damage. Killed all 6 in one shot.

Magnus kind of looks around and goes well that was no fun. Tsedek was disappointed he wasted the spell, and Elle retorts did you expect me to do anything else?

So we inspect these cultists, realize they're the low level crazy sort, and finish searching this small series of rooms for the turncoat we're looking for. Finding nothing of interest here, we return to the teleportation circle chamber.

On the way back Elle asks Magnus if her overenthusiastic fireball makes her a mass-murderer. He responds with no, more of a mass-executioner.

At the teleportation circle chamber, we hit the next button on the list. It's a rectangle. This sends us to a round room with an alter in the middle. There's dracolich art along the walls and a pair of bone arms attached to the alter, but inert. There are also 7 cultists scattered around the chamber.

Elle went first this time so she pulls out her firebolt and shoots it at the cultist closest to the alter. It died. She also snapped out "there, you go have your fun". Tsedek scooted over to the side of the chamber and called out for Magnus to follow him, and once Magnus was in place Tsedek walloped a cultist with his whip. That cultist died, and as he fell to the ground he took more damage from the booming blade aura that was around him. Magnus took out the other cultist standing there without an issue.

Two more cultist attempted to attack Magnus and Tsedek without success while the third scooted over behind a pillar and yelled a word we didn't understand. But the bone arms on the alter start animating. The fourth cultist though got in Elle's face, and he missed. She starts giggling, then pops out of his space using misty step and promptly firebolts him. He died.

Tsedek steps over to the animated bone arms and starts whipping them, while Magnus handles the two cultists. The one who had scooted away moved into position right in front of Elle and cast a spell at the three of us, damaging us.

Elle, being in the last cultist's face, steps away from him and hits him with firebolt, but he does not die. He does get an attack of opportunity in on her though, she's no longer amused. Enroute to this last cultist Tsedek and Magnus handily dispose of the animated bone arms though.

But that means we're all relatively close together so the wizard uses ice storm on us. Which is good, Elle resists cold, but she still took more damage than she would like. Now she's pissed, yells at him, and shoots him again with firebolt. He died.

And that was the end of this session!
