Ep 1306: We may have lost a friend

Wow where to start on this one. First, its been pointed out that sometimes folks are losing track of which characters are in what game, so I'm adding a list of who is who to all blog posts. This party consists of:

Tsedek, our charming Tiefling Rogue

Itanis, a devious High Elf Wizard, fond of controlling any situation we may find ourselves in

Leoven, our quiet but effective Wood Elf Ranger

Magnus, the Human Paladin of Heironious, he has followed a vengeance path

Elle, the small but sparky High Elf Wizard, fond of blowing things up with lots of fire

And we have an NPC: Gearbox, a Monodrone, who is Elle's follower. He looks like a round ball on legs but think more along the lines of R2D2 in skills and abilities

When last we left this party we had pushed through to the 3rd level of Tsedek's "scry", that's really not a scry, so Tsedek can find his missing brother Malek. We had fought off a white and a black fiend on level 1, two green fiends on level 2, and left off mid fight with a red and a blue fiend on level 3. And Magnus taunted Tiamat through the fiends. Because taunting Tiamat, a fiendish dragon goddess, seems like a grand idea right?

So to kick things off today the red fiends swoops over between Itanis and Leoven and proceeds to claw at Itanis but misses due to Itanis' skills at avoiding getting hit. It's a combination of spells and equipment that makes him hard to hit. It then proceeds to bite and breathe on Leoven, successfully.

Itanis proceeds to nope out of being that close to a fiend, moves over closer to Elle, and cast his indestructible bubble on Leoven. Leoven then nopes out of being near a fiend and moves off toward the other side of the area and casts a healing spell on himself.

Magnus recovers from his haste spell failing last session and steps right up between Elle and the blue fiend to smack it hard. Elle then backs up away from the blue fiend some more and summons "Sunbeam" and lobs it at the blue fiend. It does radiant damage, it seems like a good choice in this situation. She did, however, move 15' from Magnus, so she loses his bonuses.

Tsedek makes his concentration checks to keep the spell going. There is a lot going on around him and it's hard to concentrate. And we still do not know what will happen if the spell drops.

Blue fiend then blasts cone of cold at Elle, Magnus, Itanis, and Gearbox. Magnus took the full damage, but Elle resists cold so she took half. Unfortunately, Gearbox failed his save so he kinda froze in place. Red fiend waltzed up to Magnus and proceeds to slash and snack on him. Red fiend when he bites you you take puncture damage from the teeth AND fire damage from the breath. A lot of damage.

Itanis moves away from Elle and casts his mental prison spell on blue fiend. Basically the creature is stuck in a nightmare. Seeing as it's a fiend, we were joking that his nightmare is full of tricycles, anime girls, lollipops and other happy cheerful things. Perhaps a few carebears too?

Leoven stays in his healing spell and shoots arrows while Magnus proceeds to pound the snot out of blue fiend some more, and Elle lobs sunbeam at him for good measure.

Unfortunately all this activity around Tsedek caused him to falter in his concentration checks, and the swirling purple edges of this reality shake a bit, and move inwards 10'. This puts Gearbox outside of the area and is presumed dead at this point.

Blue fiend attempts to step out of his mental prison. I say attempt because if a creature leaves that space they take a shocking large amount of damage. Also, leaving a vengeance paladin's area of operation is not usually good for one's health. Blue fiend dies.

Itanis promptly puts up an illusion of a wall between red fiend and the rest of the party and hops into Leoven's healing spell zone. I think those two are pushing and shoving each other at this point to get in the healing zone.

Magnus and Elle though, knowing it's an illusion, step through and target red fiend with all of Magnus' fury with a bit of Elle's sunbeam chaser. It too no longer exists.

And that's where the session ended! More in two weeks, we're off for the holiday.
