Let's see, when last we left we had finally found the item of great value the Council of Metallic Dragons had sent us off to find. It's a suit of power armor. Complete with a laser. We were standing in Qwalish's lab where there was a Mindflayer in a prison-tank, wires everywhere, canisters with beating hearts in them, steam in glass tubes that turned out to be the intestines of a creature. And the power armor. That Magnus promptly steps into and has a bit of an internal battle with, but Magnus wins that charm attack.

So the armor starts talking to Magnus in a rather sarcastic tone. Think Jarvis from Iron Man mixed with absolute attitude of superiority and sarcasm. After some back and forth, Magnus figures out how to "undock" the armor from its resting frame.

And then the mindflayer started talking to us. Elle would like to know why Magnus is not smashing the mindflayer (and she's half convinced the armor is controlling Magnus). Itanis and Magnus are like let it stay in it's prison and starve to death. The mindflayer is alternating between "let me out and I'll help you", "I'm hungry", and "I'm not an it my name is <something unpronounceable>".

Elle very much wants to destroy this lab, she's offended some gnome wants to make mechanical/mechanical-arcane hybrid versions of her magic. And the mindflayer, it's evil.

And then Tsedek notices something moving out of the corner of his eye, some of the glass jars of steam were moving. Leoven whips out the Lantern of Revealing* and reveals our "friend" Mary the Warlock. And there's a casket with legs next to her. The one her missing friend the Vampire was reportedly occupying. Only, her Vampire friend is no longer missing, and is standing next to the casket. He was a dwarf when he was alive, now he's a dwarven Vampire.

We are unamused.

Tsedek throws a Hold Person on Mary to keep control of the situation, so she's now frozen in place while Leoven readies an arrow and holds his action as he's not entirely sure what's going on.

Elle doesn't really know what's going on either, and she is up next. But she decided in that split second that even if Magnus has gone off the rails it's still her duty to destroy the undead and lobs a lightning bolt at the Vampire.

Magnus then wades in with his shiny new armor and smacks the Vampire as well.

Itanis though, he really took the battle to the next level. See, he did his flying caltrops of doom trick and hits Mary 9 out of 10 times. She's currently held by magic. So with bonuses and how the spell works, he winds up doing 120 HP of damage in one shot. Drops her dead.

Which enrages the Vampire, seeing his lover die, so he turns to Elle and tries to Charm her. Thankfully, she's semi resistant to Charm and was able to make her saving throw. Leoven chose this moment to declare the Vampire his sworn enemy and loose a couple of arrows at him, doing quite a bit of damage.

The unseen servant that was gathering the steam filled vials went away at Mary's death, so suddenly all of these glass vials hit the ground, dumping Steam Mephits out among us.

And that's where this session ended. Lunch hour is never long enough.
