Ep 1105: In a bit of a sticky situation

When we last left our heroes they were in a "tunnel" through the spider webs, created by flaming spheres cast by Itanis and Elle, and as the last round of flaming spheres went out several spiders and ettercaps dropped in to say hello.

Leovan and Tsedek are in the lead, then Itanis, then Magnus w/Elle. She was standing on the horse peering over Magnus' head so she could cast and control flaming sphere. She also threw a quick light cantrip on his helm as it was getting quite dark in there.

So we had 3 ettercaps land up close and personal to us, 2 beside Magnus and Elle and one closer to Leovan. The spiders were around us but further away and not on the "path" we'd created. Tsedek immedietly went invisible. Elle did not think this through but launched Ice Storm over a group of spiders and the one ettercap on that side. Leovan started shooting. Tsedek did one of his hide sneaky attacks on a spider and killed it then moved over to an ettercap.

Then the bad guys attacked. The ettercaps near Magnus and Elle decided to chew on her, and chew they did. She took some damage and completely failed her con save (even with the paladin's buddy bonus) so wound up poisoned. One bad guy tried to web Itanis, he avoided it completely, but Leovan got caught in another's web.

Magnus weirdly did not start swinging, though that's probably good as he'd have hit Elle too, and dismounting in front of 2 ettercaps would be dangerous even for him. So he has the horse move out of range of the ettercaps. And Elle got webbed. Itanis used a wand to shoot a spider.

The next round did not go well either. Tsedek did more damage and disappeared. Elle cautiously launched a fireball. Leovan kept shooting even with his disadvantage. Magnus cured Elle's poisoning but she's still webbed and then goes to move the horse ... which left Elle hanging in a web. Which was freaking hilarious really.

Then the bad guys went again. Another spider chewed on Elle, causing more damage and yes poisoning her again, she's dreadful at con saves apparently. This round a spider got Itanis webbed. Itanis decides to hypnotize a small group of the spiders.

The start of the next round has Tsedek invisible somewhere doing damage, Elle uses Misty Step to get out of the web and flings a firebolt at a spider but misses completely (poison makes you attack at disadvantage). Leovan's still shooting things at disadvantage. Magnus then does an epic Paladin on a War Horse charge at a spider ... and rolls a 1. Completely misses.

One of the still active spiders goes over to de-hypnotize one of his buddies, a spider webs Magnus, and another spider arrives on scene ...

... and that's when we ran out of time.

We've killed off all of the ettercaps and 4 of the spiders, leaving 4 original spiders and the new arrival.

The reality is 8 spiders and 3 ettercaps should not have caused us this much grief, but some days you roll well ... and then some days you roll very bad. Today was the latter unfortunately. Elle is injured and poisoned, I'm pretty sure Leovan and Itanis have taken damage as well.

Also right now it doesn't look good for this group. Itanis, Magnus, and Leovan are webbed. Tsedek is somewhere, and Elle is standing in the middle of our little clearing going oh crap what do I do now by myself?!
